At least once a year.

WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS TO THE CLEANSE?

The pros to this cleanse include:

  1. Super simple to do…just follow directions in box.
  2. Gentle on the body…no harsh side effects.
  3. Nice selection of OK foods to eat…shouldn’t feel deprived.

The cons to this cleanse include:

  1. Doesn’t come with a colon cleanse supplement…you’ll need to be sure you are having plenty of bowel movements (2-3 each day).
  2. One box doesn’t give enough supplements to do all 35 days of the program.
  3. Lots of pills…if you’re not accustomed to taking pills, this can be difficult.
  4. Not recommended for pregnant or nursing women; or if you’re trying to conceive.

I would love to hear from you…let me know your pros and cons to this detox, including your favorite parasite supplements.  Feel free to post any questions and I’ll do my best to answer them.   And, if you like my podcasts and blogs, please like Bartann Therapy on Facebook and share my podcasts and blogs with your family and friends.  Thanks!

Hydrotherapy Bath

A hydrotherapy bath is one of the simplest spa treatments that you can give yourself at home.  Here is how to pamper yourself with a hydrotherapy bath:

    1. Create the ambiance – place candles around your tub and light them, hang a live green plant nearby or put a vase of fresh cut flowers so you can see them while you soak, set up your CD player or iPod to play your favorite relaxing music or meditation, hang/drape silk scarves or other beautiful linens around the room, place your plush towel or robe in easy reach.
    2. Fill your tub with water – you’ll want nice hot water (no more than 104 degrees Fahrenheit).  While waiting for the tub to fill, sit on the edge of the tub, in a vanity chair, or on the closed toilet seat and give yourself a nice foot massage.
    3. Just before your tub is full, add one of the following special ingredients right into the flow of the faucet so it will swirl and mix into the bath water:
      • seaweed powder – to remineralize, relax, and detox your body
      • clay powder – to stimulate the lymph system and draw out toxins
      • essential oils – rosemary and peppermint to invigorate your body for increased energy
    4. Carefully step into your hot bath water, sink into the water…all the way up and over your shoulders, breathe deeply, either meditate or enjoy listening to  your relaxing music while looking at your plant/flowers, candles, and beautiful linens.

Sm - Cleansing Bath

  1. Soak for 20 minutes.  Then slowly rise and get out of the tub, lightly patting yourself dry with your soft towel…leave a little of the bath essence on your skin to continue to seep into your pores.  Wrap yourself in your comfy robe.
  2. Make yourself a cup of herbal tea and do nothing for the next 20 minutes.

Tell me what your favorite special additives are to your bath in the comment section below…

Episode 02 – Bladder-Kidney Detox

On my blog and in my Facebook posts this week, I’ve focused on back pain.  One of the things that can cause back pain is poor kidney function.  So, this week’s detox is all about cleansing and detoxifying the Bladder and Kidneys.

WHAT THE DETOX IS FOR?

Flushing toxins from the bladder and kidneys to improve urination and reduce infections.

HOW LONG DOES THE DETOX LAST?

This detox lasts for 3 days.

WHAT DO I EAT?

The 3 days prior to the cleanse – Drink half your body weight in ounces of water.  For example, if  you weigh 150 pounds, drink 75 ounces of water per day.  Also avoid alcohol, coffee, and large amounts of protein.

The night before – Drink 1 cup of uva ursi tea with 1/4 tsp of ascorbate vitamin C crystals added to the tea.

The next 3 days :

  • When you wake up, drink a 6 ounce glass of distilled water that has 3 tsp of cranberry concentrate and 1/4 tsp of ascorbate vitamin C crystals added to it.
  • For breakfast drink either a glass of watermelon juice with 1/4 tsp of ascorbate vitamin C crystals added to it or a glass of organic apple juice with 1 capsule of Probiotic.
  • Mid morning drink either a glass of watermelon seed tea (grind watermelon seeds and steep in hot water for 30 minutes, add honey to taste) or drink an herbal bladder cleansing tea, such as uva ursi tea.
  • For lunch drink either carrot juice or a chlorophyll-rich drink.
  • For dinner drink either carrot juice with 1 tsp spirulina powder added or cranberry juice with 1/4 tsp ascorbate vitamin C crystals added.
  • Before bed drink either a glass of papaya or apple juice and take 1 capsule of Probiotic.

The next 30 days – Be sure to include garlic, onions, papayas, bananas, watermelon, sprouts, leafy greens, and/or cucumbers in your diet each day.  These foods promote healthy kidneys.

WHAT FOODS SHOULD I AVOID?

Avoid  alcohol, coffee, and large amounts of protein.  May also be beneficial to avoid dairy and watch sodium consumption.

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE SUPPLEMENTS OR SPECIALTY FOODS, TEAS, ETC.?

This detox requires a couple of specialty items.  I have inserted hyperlinks to the items above.  Most of the items, if not all of them, can be found at a local health food store.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I REPEAT THE CLEANSE?

This detox should be repeated any time you notice having problems with urination (limited or burning or foul smelling),  having frequent bladder infections, or experiencing back pain due to kidney problems.

WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS TO THE CLEANSE?

The pros to this cleanse include:

  1. There are at least 2 options at each “meal” for drinks.  So you shouldn’t get bored with drinking the same thing and you should be able to select a drink of which you can tolerate the flavor.
  2. You are drinking off and on all day so when you get hungry it is probably time to drink again.
  3. While there are some “specialty” items in this cleanse, they aren’t so special that you can’t purchase them from a local health food store.

The cons to this cleanse include:

  1. This is a liquid diet…there is no food for 3 days.
  2. Some of the drinks aren’t yummy…for example, spirulina isn’t my favorite so it would be difficult for me to drink this down.

I would love to hear from you…let me know your pros and cons to this detox.  Feel free to post any questions and I’ll do my best to answer them.   And, if you like my podcasts and blogs, please like Bartann Therapy on Facebook and share my podcasts and blogs with your family and friends.  Thanks!

Episode 01 – Indigestion Cleanse

The first detox that we are going to dive into together and learn more about!

This week I will be focusing on a detox for people who suffer from Indigestion.

A quick side note – a cleanse is more about cleaning up the diet to eliminate food triggers that cause a problem versus a detox that turns toxins into waste to be eliminated.  This detox is considered a cleanse.

WHAT THE CLEANSE IS FOR?

Relieving signs and symptoms of indigestion, acid reflux, and/or heartburn.

HOW LONG DOES THE CLEANSE LAST?

This cleanse lasts for 2 days, followed by a 4 day fresh food and brown rice diet.

Because it is a cleanse it is more of a way of life than just a temporary thing you do get rid of toxins in the body.  Therefore, you will continue to watch your food consumption after the initial 2 days and the subsequent 4 days.

WHAT DO I EAT?

The first 2 days – The only food you eat is apples; the only drink you drink is fresh squeezed apple juice.  Obviously, you may have water to drink as well.

You are not limited on the amount of apples you can eat or the amount of fresh apple juice you can drink.  If you feel hungry, eat another apple or drink another glass of apple juice.  I really enjoy hot apple juice…I know it’s kind of weird but it helps to get over the craving for hot coffee in the morning.  Give it a try and let me know if it helped you or not.

The next 4 days – Begin adding fresh foods and brown rice back into your diet. Fresh foods are foods that are not preserved by canning, that are not dehydrated, that are not frozen, and that are not smoked.  You don’t have to eat all the fresh produce raw, you may cook them.

After the 4 days – You may begin adding other foods back into your diet.  I highly recommend you do this slowly and pay attention to your body.  If you have any signs or symptoms of indigestion, remove the offending item from your list of ok foods.

WHAT FOODS SHOULD I AVOID?

Avoid eating anything that is fatty, spicy, sugary, or acid-forming.  Also avoid high fat dairy, dried fruits, sodas, and caffeine.

Acid-forming and Alkalizing Food Lists

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE SUPPLEMENTS OR SPECIALTY FOODS, TEAS, ETC.?

This cleanse doesn’t require any supplements, specialty foods or teas.  You may eat whatever kind of organic (if possible) apple you think is tasty and enjoy.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I REPEAT THE CLEANSE?

There is no recommended time frame for repeating.  It is recommended that you make a lifestyle change.  However, if you find yourself back in a situation of having indigestion and not knowing the source, then it would be a great time to start the cleanse again from the beginning.

WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS TO THE CLEANSE?

The pros to this cleanse include:

  1. Being able to eat when you’re hungry.  There is no limit on how many apples you can consume per day.
  2. Having relief from indigestion, acid-reflux, and heartburn.
  3. It is short…only 2 days.

The cons to this cleanse include:

  1. Allergy to apples…DON’T DO IT!
  2. It’s a mono diet…only apples, fresh apple juice, and water.  So, it may be boring.
  3. Some people report having indigestion when they eat apples…if that is the case, then this cleanse is not for you.

I would love to hear from you…let me know your pros and cons to this cleanse.  Feel free to post any questions and I’ll do my best to answer them.   And, if you like my podcasts and blogs, please like Bartann Therapy on Facebook and share my podcasts and blogs with your family and friends.  Thanks!
