Episode 01 – Indigestion Cleanse

The first detox that we are going to dive into together and learn more about!

This week I will be focusing on a detox for people who suffer from Indigestion.

A quick side note – a cleanse is more about cleaning up the diet to eliminate food triggers that cause a problem versus a detox that turns toxins into waste to be eliminated.  This detox is considered a cleanse.

WHAT THE CLEANSE IS FOR?

Relieving signs and symptoms of indigestion, acid reflux, and/or heartburn.

HOW LONG DOES THE CLEANSE LAST?

This cleanse lasts for 2 days, followed by a 4 day fresh food and brown rice diet.

Because it is a cleanse it is more of a way of life than just a temporary thing you do get rid of toxins in the body.  Therefore, you will continue to watch your food consumption after the initial 2 days and the subsequent 4 days.

WHAT DO I EAT?

The first 2 days – The only food you eat is apples; the only drink you drink is fresh squeezed apple juice.  Obviously, you may have water to drink as well.

You are not limited on the amount of apples you can eat or the amount of fresh apple juice you can drink.  If you feel hungry, eat another apple or drink another glass of apple juice.  I really enjoy hot apple juice…I know it’s kind of weird but it helps to get over the craving for hot coffee in the morning.  Give it a try and let me know if it helped you or not.

The next 4 days – Begin adding fresh foods and brown rice back into your diet. Fresh foods are foods that are not preserved by canning, that are not dehydrated, that are not frozen, and that are not smoked.  You don’t have to eat all the fresh produce raw, you may cook them.

After the 4 days – You may begin adding other foods back into your diet.  I highly recommend you do this slowly and pay attention to your body.  If you have any signs or symptoms of indigestion, remove the offending item from your list of ok foods.

WHAT FOODS SHOULD I AVOID?

Avoid eating anything that is fatty, spicy, sugary, or acid-forming.  Also avoid high fat dairy, dried fruits, sodas, and caffeine.

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE SUPPLEMENTS OR SPECIALTY FOODS, TEAS, ETC.?

This cleanse doesn’t require any supplements, specialty foods or teas.  You may eat whatever kind of organic (if possible) apple you think is tasty and enjoy.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I REPEAT THE CLEANSE?

There is no recommended time frame for repeating.  It is recommended that you make a lifestyle change.  However, if you find yourself back in a situation of having indigestion and not knowing the source, then it would be a great time to start the cleanse again from the beginning.

WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS TO THE CLEANSE?

The pros to this cleanse include:

  1. Being able to eat when you’re hungry.  There is no limit on how many apples you can consume per day.
  2. Having relief from indigestion, acid-reflux, and heartburn.
  3. It is short…only 2 days.

The cons to this cleanse include:

  1. Allergy to apples…DON’T DO IT!
  2. It’s a mono diet…only apples, fresh apple juice, and water.  So, it may be boring.
  3. Some people report having indigestion when they eat apples…if that is the case, then this cleanse is not for you.
